You might know Metal Slug as a side-scrolling, action-filled series but it's not the only genre that the series visited.

Created for mobile, Metal Slug Defense was a lane tower-defense in which you placed units to get to the ennemies' bases.

It was quite successful and we warned you about the imminent sequel at the end of last month. SNK made good on its promise as the game's now available on iOS and Android to celebrate the series' 20th birthday.

As we said, you can now create guilds, compete in real-time and asynchronous battles online, and there is also a permanent map where you can conquer bases that can be taken by other players as well.

It looks like an expanded sequel filled with interesting features.

Check them all out in the trailer below:

The upcoming block-collecter, Evergrow, by Imagility is shaping up to be a pretty adventure, and it's coming to iOS soon apparently.

Evergrow is a dynamic cosmic adventure set in a colourful universe. The idea is to help a little blocky lifeform grow big and strong by collecting the good blocks and taking out the bad ones.

With physics-based gameplay, fluid multi-touch controls, and stunning visual effects, Evergrow is a truly intriguing game that I can't quite get my head around. As well as its overall aim, there're still level-based goals to work through and plenty of environments to explore.

Check out the trailer below for a better idea. Though a release date has yet to be set, Imagility announced that Evergrow was approved by Apple this week and so should be releasing on iOS 'soon' for £2.99/$2.99.

The Nintendo Switch keynote is looming ever closer and more information is slipping through the cracks. It looks like there could be a difference in performance between docking and un-docking your Nintendo Switch.

We're all excited for the Switch to finally get out of the screens and into our hands, but how will it run? Between Eurogamer and Venturebeat, the recently discussed specifications actually suggest that the device could run about 40% lower once it's out of the dock. When handheld, the Switch could run at 307.2 MHz whilst a docked device sees double that at 768 MHz.

Twinning this with the console's slightly outdated innards and a few inconsistencies that don't quite add up so far, the likelihood of recent console games running on the Switch grows thinner and thinner. Older titles aren't as demanding so I wouldn't write them off just yet, but you can probably expect the battery life to be a bugger when it's at its highest performance.

Needless to say Nintendo's got their work cut out for them.

For those interested in an explanation with more tech-talk, Eurogamer's article goes into technologically graphic detail about the CPU and GPU clock speeds of the upcoming Switch, so it's definitely worth a read.

Of course, take everything you read with a pinch of salt. We won't have confirmation of details until the 13th January, so stay tuned.
